35 books, detrimental to public peace, banned

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has banned 35 books, 34 written in Bahasa Malaysia and an Iban language book, considered detrimental to the public peace.

"Printing, import, production, reproduction, sale, circulation, distribution and possession of books listed under the schedule are banned in the country," said a statement from the KDN publications control unit.

If found guilty, offenders can be jailed not more than three years or fined not exceeding RM20,000 or both.

The list of banned books was gazetted under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (Amended 1987), said the statement.

The ministry also gazetted the books under the Printing Presses and Publications Regulations (Revenue Control from Undesirable Publications) 2003.

The books including seven published by the Persekutuan Pembaca Alkitab are Metode Penelaahan Alkitab written by Dick & Tinem Maitimoe; Seri Pemahaman Doktrin Alkitabiah: Dunia Kepunyaan Allah by JI Parker MA.D.Phill and Seri Pemahaman Doktrin Alkitabiah: Dunia Kepunyaan Allah by Arthur E.Cundall BA.BD.

Four books published by Penerbit Kanisius include Mengenal Tulisan Perjanjian Baru by I.Suharyo Pr. and Sejarah Singkat Liturgi Barat by Theodor Klauser.

Seven books published by Pustaka Jiwa Sdn Bhd and all written by Ali Muhammad Ali include TokohTokoh Terkemuka Ahlul Bait Nabi Rasullullah SAW Fatimah AzZahra Jilid 12 and TokohTokoh Terkemuka Ahlul Bait Nabi Imam Ali bin Abi Thalib a.s. Imam Hasan bin Ali a.s. Jilid 34.

Five more books published by M.A. Jaya titled Sorga Firdaus 2; Syurga di bawah Kaki Ibu dengan Iman dan Taqwa; Berdasarkan AlHadits' dengan Riwayat: Risalah Durhaka (without writers' name); Bangkit dari Kubur by Ustaz Musannif Effendi Alwi.S.; and Antara Syorga dan Neraka by Zaery were also banned.

Bup Kudus, written in Iban and published by the Bible Society of Malaysia, was also banned.
